The Manhattan Yacht Club, founded in 1987 and located just across from Lower Manhattan, is seeking a skilled and experienced Engineer to assist in the maintenance and repairs of all club assets including motorboats, sailboats, and onland items. This is a hands-on role that requires real experience working on boats – from sanding and painting hulls, to maintaining and fixing engine problems. You’ll work directly under the Commodore to ensure that our boats remain in good service for members to enjoy.
What You’ll Do:
· Perform routine maintenance on sailboats, including sanding, painting, and varnishing.
· Conduct repairs on hulls, masts, rigging, and other structural components.
· Service and troubleshoot engines to ensure reliability and safety.
· Assist with seasonal preparations, launches, and haul-outs.
· Maintain tools, equipment, and workspace in a clean and orderly condition.
· Work both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in varying weather conditions.
· Communicate directly with the Commodore about progress of repairs.
- Represent the Club with a team-oriented attitude.
Who You Are:
- Experienced in maintenance and repairs (required).
· Skilled with tools, paints, and repair techniques used in marine environments.
· Comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team.
· Physically able to lift, bend, climb, and work on boats dockside and in the shop.
- Detail-oriented and able to take directions and follow procedures.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
