Skills
Five (5) years experience in logistics and
stevedoring and three (3) years of managerial experience in terminal and
warehousing operations. Strong background in logistics including stevedoring,
warehousing and shipping. Familiarity with the break-bulk and non-ferrous
metals industry. Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as
fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability
to work with and convert American and Metric measurements. Computer skills:
Experience with Microsoft word, Excel, e-mail and Unix is desired. Reasoning
Ability Ability to define problems, collect information and data, establish
facts, draw valid conclusions and implement plans. Practical Ability: Ability to
instruct and train personnel, as well as generate innovative solutions for
practical matters. Other Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills Working knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations and
homeland security as they pertain to terminal operations. Familiarity with
heavy equipment including cranes and forklifts. Ability to work in a fast
paced, multitasking environment while projecting a highly professional image.
Description
Based at our headquarters in Baltimore, MD the successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Operations to develop and expand terminal and warehouse operations designed to achieve profitable growth, controlling expenses, managing the inventory and effectively running the day-to-day operations, such as container (un)loading (stripping), truck (un)loading and vessels discharge and loading. The Assistant Operations Manager is managing a group of 50+ employees and as such must be a highly motivated professional with a TEAM player attitude. This position requires to be capable of manning all facilities through effective day-to-day scheduling of personnel, bearing in mind that warehouse managers under his command will not be directly scheduling their facility’s personnel and they should place their requests to and through Assistant Operations Manager. Scheduling of personnel is to include hiring and utilization of temporary work force depending on the needs on a day-to-day basis.  Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Directly contributes to the development of C. Steinweg (USA)’s business strategies and is directly responsible for the implementation thereof with respect to Baltimore terminal and warehouse operations. 2. Assists in the planning and implementation of company policies and goals. 3. Directs activities of the Baltimore terminal and warehouses with the paramount objective being organizational efficiency and customer service. 4. Plans and prepares for vessel’s / containers’ arrival, discharge and subsequent delivery out of cargoes. 5. Directly supervises vessel discharge operations in concert with subordinates responsible for pier, storage and outbound operations. 6. The Assistant Operations Manager is directly responsible for an accurate and reliable inventory, and an efficient and productive stevedoring and warehousing operations. 7. Encourages TEAM participation in day-to-day human resources, and makes cost effective decisions for gang size while scheduling workers. 8. Participates in management meetings and provides progress reports. Supervisory Responsibilities: Maintains a cohesive and focused team dedicated to C. Steinweg (USA)’s vision, mission and values. Such leadership combines authority and a can-do attitude with active operational participation. Assistant Operation’s Manager is required to be a Strict-Safety-Conscious individual and must work in harmony with the company’s Safety & Security department in maintaining a Safe and Secure working environment at all times.
