We are looking for a Marine Maintenance Master to join our Ferry Dredge team in Currituck county, but you will be working on any ferry terminal along the NC coast.In this role you will:
- Repair and perform preventative maintenance of dredge operation equipment used for maintaining channels, port facilities, and vessels.
- Analyze mechanical problems for repair involving tugs, dredges, and crane barges to install, repair, and maintain dolphin clusters and fenders, support barges and any other equipment near coastal, sound, and river waterways.
- Replace damaged/aged channel markers along channel routes.
- Assist in the construction and maintenance of dredge disposal sites (spoil).
- Interpret radar, global positioning systems, and weather instruments.
- Provide staff supervision including those working above deck and in the engine room to ensure safe operations and navigation of marine maintenance fleet underway and enforce safety guidelines, policies, and procedures to vessel crew.
- Oversee compliance of all safety and Homeland Security rules and regulations. Additional duties include working on ferry dock ramp and gantries to maintain, replacing, and repairing all cables, sheaves, and hydraulic cylinders.
What You Bring- Considerable experience and ability in the understanding of dredge operations.
- Organizational skills, accuracy in recorded documentation of maintenance/operation, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of:
- Radar, Global Positioning Systems, and communication equipment related to ferry vessel operations.
- Applicable State, Federal and US Coast Guard laws and regulations.
- Dredging operations and/or ferries, tugs, dredges, crane barge, support barges, and any other equipment near coastal, sound, and river waterways.
- Writing skills to prepare reports related to repairs and special problems of dredge operations equipment and/or vessels.
- Management skills to delegate tasks, supervise subordinate staff, and provide instruction.
- Valid US Coast Guard Master's license for 100-ton Inland with Radar Unlimited.
- Master of Self-Propelled Vessels of 100 Gross Register Tons.
- Valid certificate as Radar Observer issued by an institution approved by the US Coast Guard.
- Valid Marine Radio Operator permit issued by the Federal Communications Commission.
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential Card (TWIC) issued by the Transportation Security Administration.
Management PrefersCandidates with:- 2+ years' experience working with NC Marine Maintenance vessels and equipment.
- A Master of Towing credential.
Education and Experience- High School/GED diploma, and
- 2+ years experience in Dredge Operations and related marine maintenance work; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Notes- We may require a National Crane Operator certification, US Coast Guard Master of Towing certification, and/or a Class A Commercial Drivers License.
