1993 -2008 February: Naval Engineer

National Petroleum Construction Company, Box 2058, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates



Responsibilities: -



· Responsible for planning, budgeting, execution of dry dockings, repairs, modifications and new building etc. for the company’s ships and construction vessels (marine fleet)

· Prepares ‘scopes of work’ and ‘specifications’ for shipyards and other third party jobs

· Good experience in subcontract procedures and change orders

· Reports to ‘Head of Plant - Offshore section’ in the Company and have large degree of independence in carrying out the specialist duties



(Company owns and operates 12 offshore construction ships/vessels for pipe laying, cable laying, heavy lifting (derricks), launching of jackets and for offshore installations. They include ‘One heavy lift ship’, ‘Two derrick / pipe lay barges’, ‘One work / cable lay barge’, ‘Three jack-up barges’, ‘One shallow water pipe lay barge’, ‘Two launch barges’ and ‘Two cargo barges’ with total asset value of over US$ ~300 M.)



Major projects handled:



·Dry docking of Heavy lift ship – 1500T steel repairs + extensive piping jobs + main engine jobs + tail shaft jobs + ‘2400 MT derrick’ center pin base strengthening +‘2400 MT derrick’ tie back pad eyes + painting jobs etc. under ‘ABS special survey’ at ~US $ 5.6M, 120 days.



·Dry docking of heavy lift ship - 620 T steel work / 15000 M2 blasting and coating, 200 M piping, 1700 Anodes, Over hauling of main engine, Tail shaft, Stern gear and Propeller etc. under ‘ABS special survey’ at ~ US$ 3 M, 70 days



·Dry docking of launch barge –1000 MT steel repairs and piping jobs, 108 days



·Dry-docking of pipe lay barge - 241T steel, extensive piping, Hull blasting etc. under “ABS special survey” ~US$ 1.2 M, 30 days.



·Dry docking of derrick and pipe lay barge - 300T steel work / extensive piping / equipment jobs - US$ 1.5M, 40 days



·Dry docking and mid body installation (insurance claim) for launch barge - 250T steelwork – US$ 1.4M, 40 days



·Installation of lifting pad eyes (4 points) for cargo barges to use as a load test weight for ‘Derrick -2400 MT’ load testing.



·Dry docking / Afloat repairs – Several (Handles average 900T to 3500T repair steel each year at Shipyards and at Company base)



·Support role for Hull/Machinery insurance claims -1 to 2/yr. (claim values range between US $0.5 To 10 M). This includes preparations of ‘initial claim estimates (to determine whether below deductible or claimable)’, ‘final claim costs after repairs’ and ‘filing/finalization’ of the claims through ‘Company’ support Officer and Legal Advisor. Also attends meetings with Insurance under writers whenever necessary.



·Prepares and monitors dry dock and operation budgets for Company vessel’s repairs (average per year US $ 4 - 6 M).



·Prepares modification budgets for Company vessels as and when necessary.



·Shipyard evaluation and construction evaluation visits for new build launch barge in the yr.2002, steel light wt. 7500 MT and 10000 M3 ballasting capacity per hour – US$ 10 M



·Actively involved in new construction of a deck cargo barge (steel wt. 2000 MT), from feasibility study, design and during ‘construction phase at company base’ and during launching using company’s launch barge.



·Involved in various fleet replacement studies, modification studies and vessel valuation studies



·Prepared ‘scope of work’ and ‘specifications’ for several dry docking repairs, modification new building and refitting jobs.



·Jack up barge’ rebuild project - US$ 20M



·Have very strong commercial and negotiation skills. Carried out several bid comparisons during last 12 yrs. and executed several projects within budgeted amounts. Very good understanding in subcontract procedures and change orders.



1991 Feb.-1993 Feb: Hull & Fabrication Engineer

Currently doing online MBA (2006-2008) from Robert Kennedy College, Zurich (University of Wales validated MBA program) - Passed all taught modules (OB, Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Applied leadership, International Management, E-business, Strategic Management -total earned 120 credits, remaining is the final dissertation / thesis, expected to graduate within next 6 months.
