DGM, Operations, Essar Logistics Limited, Hazira, India: Nov. 2005 - Aug. 2007 - In charge of port and shipping operations for the export of finished steel products of more than 100,000 mt per month and imports in excess of 1.2 million mt per month of iron ore pellets, CLO, lime stone & coal. The job included optimum capacity utilization of the chartered vessels/ barges, checking bunkers consumption/ distribution to the fleet, tracking off-hires & damage claims, liaising with vessel owners, minimizing demurrage and settlement of vessels hire, stevedoring, lashing and other misc charges. Co-ordination with sales and marketing deptt, chartering deptt, stevedoring contractors, lashing contractors including nominating the contractors for different vessels.
During the tenure, successfully exploited the existing contract with ‘Port Pipavav’ in India to save in excess of USD 12,000 per shipment.
Responsibilities:
? Post fixture operations of the vessels including lay time calculations and settlement of demurrage/ despatch
? Planned for loading various grades of steel cargo
? Planned for the lighterage operations of the mother vessels at the anchorage to maximise the discharge rate

? Planned for import of steel plant from South Korea including discharge operations at Mumbai & Hazira
? Handled project cargo transportation for Essar Oil’s Vadinar refinery
? Dredging & maintenance of depth around jetty, maintenance of jetty infrastructure and yard management
? Co-ordination, loading & discharging of rail & road transport
? Compliance of the port facility with the ISPS regulations
Chief Officer, Master & Marine Superintendent - Quality & Safety, Fleet Management Limited, Hong Kong, Jan 01 - Sept 05- Commanded 04 vessels (02 bulk carriers & 02 container vessels) and a short stint as Safety & Quality superintendent. Responsibilities included navigation, accounting, communications, primary medical care and general management of the vessel. An impeccable record as master with total cumulative off-hire for all these four vessels being less than 48 hrs (< 0.25%)and having passed strict port state control inspections smoothly although 02 of the vessels were more than 20 years of age.
