Description

Veeco is looking for a collaborative Quality Technician for our Incoming Quality Assurance Team, ensuring parts and assemblies received from our suppliers meet Veeco’s workmanship standards and specifications. This person will need to have good written and verbal skills to be able to work with various departments within Veeco and at our suppliers and contract manufacturers.  Partnered with supplier quality engineering, manufacturing, mechanical and quality engineers, this role will identify and implement part risk mitigation plans (develop and execute control plans), monitor and report critical parameter performance and may assist in troubleshooting issues while suggesting risk mitigation or corrective actions as opportunities arise. A broad scope role, this position is a great opportunity to positively impact manufacturing success for the benefit of Veeco and its customers.   

Responsibilities:

  • Verify received materials conform to specifications by conducting visual and measurement tests; reject unacceptable materials to ensure they are not assembled into product.
  • Maintain control of non-conforming material with regards to dispositioning and movements in the system.
  • Review first article inspection data supporting new part qualifications and new vendor qualifications.
  • Perform source inspections of critical assemblies as may be required (primary suppliers are local to San Jose).
  • Work closely with engineering and/or manufacturing engineering to set-up inspection plans within the ERP system for all parts.
  • Participate in partnership with supplier/quality engineering and/ or drive ongoing CIP programs focused on vendor quality through metric driven information.
  • Ensure calibration processes for measurement equipment remain in compliance to requirements.
  • Continuous improvement of our ERP (SAP) system to enhance usability and efficiency of the quality department.
  • Administer the Specification Deviation Request system for San Jose operations and drive improvements based on metric results
  • Work with manufacturing, quality, and project management on inventory purges to isolate suspect product and update control plans accordingly based on findings
  • Manage SPC controls for parts coming through the IQA area
  • Report out key performance metrics and drive improvement thereof as aligned to objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in a technical or science field or American Society of Quality (ASQ) Quality Assurance Inspector or Quality Engineer certification or 5 or more years experience
  • Minimum of 2-4 years relevant experience
  • Must be able to travel up to 20%, primarily locally, though potentially domestically as well
