Description
A leading offshore maritime operator is seeking experienced Chief Engineers for multiple opportunities based in Galveston, Texas.
Candidates do not need to reside in the Galveston area. For qualified candidates who live elsewhere, the company will pay for travel to Galveston when the vessel is scheduled to depart for offshore work.
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of all vessel engineering equipment. This senior shipboard role leads engine room operations, supervises engineering personnel, manages maintenance and repair activities, maintains engineering records, and ensures operational readiness during normal operations, maneuvering, inspections, and emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the operation, maintenance, and repair of vessel machinery, including diesel engines, electrical equipment, pumps, winches, hydraulic systems, refrigeration equipment, and compressors. • Manage fuel, lubricating oil, water, spare-parts inventory, and fuel, lube oil, and slop oil transfers. • Maintain preventive maintenance records, engineering logs, and equipment-failure histories. • Supervise engineering personnel, assign daily work, schedule watches, train new team members, and support performance management. • Ensure the engineering plant operates safely and efficiently while meeting applicable U.S. Coast Guard and marine safety requirements. • Prepare the engine room for inspections and provide engineering leadership during maneuvering operations and emergency situations.
Required Qualifications
• U.S. Coast Guard Designated Duty Engineer license of 4,000 HP or higher. • At least two years of Chief Engineer experience on a comparable vessel or equivalent military service. • Valid USCG STCW endorsements, including applicable OICEW, RFPEW, Able Seafarer Engine, firefighting, and security endorsements. • Valid TWIC card, USCG medical certificate, driver’s license, and current passport, or the ability to obtain one. • Ability to meet U.S. Coast Guard drug-testing requirements. • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
Work Environment
This is a hands-on offshore role requiring the ability to work in varied sea and weather conditions, climb stairs and ladders, bend, squat, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 80 pounds. Qualified candidates must be prepared to work safely in an offshore vessel environment.
