Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma, GED, trade school, military service (Navy, Coast Guard. Merchant Marine plant engineering watch standing), technical training school graduate or college graduate with a BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Marine, Facilities)
  • Gas turbine with heat recovery combined cycle power plant experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must have basic computer skills and have functional ability in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Knowledge & Experience
  • Minimum of six years of experience as an Operations and Maintenance Technician in a power plant or equivalent technical based position in a marine, cogeneration, or utility/merchant type electricity generating plant; gas turbine based preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to understand fundamental principles related to physics, mathematics, AC & DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermal dynamics and chemistry.
  • Knowledge of power plant safety, policies and procedures, especially in area such as chemical handling, high-energy systems, lockout tag-out, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, and heavy equipment.
  • Proficiency and experience in the fundamentals of water steam cycle chemistry and other relevant plant chemistry applications.
  • Team player with good communications skills.

  • Independently prioritize workload and multitask.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative on learning the plant systems with minimal supervision.

The Company is currently seeking an experienced Operations Technician for its Milford facility in Milford, Connecticut. The Operations Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining and monitoring the status of all power plant systems from the field on a continuous basis. The Operations Technician performs plant equipment rounds, responds to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions, and executes plant shut-down and start-up procedures in addition to maintenance procedures as required. The Operations Technician assures that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner reporting directly to his/her immediate Control Room Operator. Essential Functions Operates Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and associated water steam cycle equipment

  • Operate Gas turbines, steam turbines and all associated equipment safely and efficiently
  • Work with team members to meet the facilities established safety, environmental, operating and maintenance goals and objectives
  • Successfully complete all required safety and environmental training and participate in the facilities Safety Committee
  • Successfully complete the Operations Technician Qualification Program
  • Perform operational activities required to support start-up, shutdown, and normal operation of plant equipment and systems
  • Report equipment conditions or other facility anomalies that could affect the plant status to the Control Room Operator, Operations Manager and/or Maintenance Manager
  • Make entries in the operating logs, environmental records, and other administrative documentation needed to support the operation and maintenance of the facility
  • Complete required electrical switching and lockout-tagout of plant equipment and systems in accordance with approved facilities lockout procedures, industry guidelines and prudent operations and maintenance practices
  • Participate in plant housekeeping program and completes clean-up activities required to maintain the desired level of plant cleanliness
  • These activities shall include but not be limited to cleaning, painting, and trash removal from the various areas of the facility
  • Perform assigned preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, emergency maintenance and inspection of plant mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Respond to abnormal operating situations in a safe and environmentally conscious manner
  • Complete routine cycle chemistry testing and make the necessary adjustments needed to operate within the established facility operating parameters
  • Complete all tasks and instructions as requested by the Control Room Operator, Operations Manager and/or Maintenance Manager
  • Must be able to read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts and variations in color
  • Perform required field adjustments of plant equipment and systems to ensure that equipment operates in accordance with established operating parameters and environmental permit requirements
  • Comply with all required site safety requirements to identify and make corrective actions necessary to eliminate potential safety hazards in the facility
  • Operate station vehicles such as forklifts, trucks, man lifts and overhead cranes
  • Monitor the daily consumption of bulk chemicals and consumables required to operate the facility to ensure proper inventories to support anticipated operating profiles. Initiate timely re-ordering of chemicals and consumables to eliminate impacts to plant operations
  • Utilize the facilities computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to document and track the maintenance request / work orders and actions completed on plant equipment and systems
  • Complete periodic reviews of plant piping and instrument diagrams, electrical one line, electrical schematics, and other technical documentation to confirm the accuracy of the documentation and increase knowledge of plant equipment and systems
  • Read and understand operating procedure, control logic diagrams, P&ID's and other technical material pertinent to power plant operation and maintenance
  • Contribute to the development, review and issuance of required plant operating procedures and training programs
  • Complete periodic reviews of the facilities environmental permits to ensure familiarity with the established operating limits and reporting requirements for each of the operating permits
  • Must be able to perform additional duties as assigned by plant management

Working Conditions

  • Position requires working on feet extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules.
  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders; enter and work in confined spaces; crawl to and through confined space areas; climb to and work from elevated platforms, and walkways at elevations of 75 feet or more.
  • This job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells.
  • Personal protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, chemical suits, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.)
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and use other safety equipment as required by plant management.
