MARINE MECHANICAL ENGINEER
ARLINGTON VA

Gibbs & Cox, Inc. is one of the nation's leading independent naval architecture, marine engineering and design firms. We are seeking a well qualified individual for a position as the company's Marine Mechanical Engineer. This position will be based in Arlington VA.
Responsibilities:

  • Works independently (with moderate supervision), or on project teams
  • Able to manage schedule and technical product development for small, focused tasks
  • Able to supervise small numbers of junior staff on projects or teams
  • Perform calculations applying mechanical engineering principles, techniques, procedures and criteria
  • Prepare quality assurance reviews of simple analyses or other engineering documentation
  • Develop test procedures to ensure equipment and system performance
  • Interfaces with client peer level
  • Performs quality assurance reviews of simple analyses, calculations and drawings developed by junior staff
  • Perform engineering and sizing of auxiliary machinery piping systems for early ship concept design phases
  • Interfaces with client at peer level
  • Direct interface with design leads

Description

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education in Mechanical or Marine Engineering
  • Professional Engineering Certification (in Mechanical or Marine Engineering or other applicable discipline) and a minimum of 8 years of professional engineering experience
  • Experience in shipyard production
  • Experience with marine/ship piping systems design and engineering
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard mechanical system design and analysis software tools
  • Systems include main and auxiliary propulsion, fuel systems, lubrication systems, seawater and fresh water systems, heating and ventilating and air conditioning systems
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard mechanical system design and analysis software tools
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or other CAD type software
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance
  • Propulsion experience is desired
