Position: Economist - at the Freight Desk

Negotiating competitive ocean freight on break bulk cargo (primarily parcels) of non-ferrous metal concentrates in international maritime transportation. Supplying traders with ocean freight indications, freight market analysis, parity information. Due diligence and risk management implementation in conjunction with the Trading, Finance and Operations departments. Approve freight, deadfreight and demurrage payments. Assist my colleagues as required on the negotiation of Shipping Terms in Sales contracts, Charter Party performance including Laytime calculations and chartering issues, etc.

Have run the Commercial Agent (management) function of the Company for 4-5 exclusive vessels owned within the Group, 22-25,000 mt dwat logs fitted, Lakes fitted SD (Oak, Elm, Cedar, Pine). They were supplemented with vessels time chartered from the market, depending on cargo booking. Chartering, relationship with Masters, Stevedores, Port and Canal Agents, bunker suppliers, P and I Club etc. Close contacts with major Charterers and brokers worldwide to maximize commercial results within a given market.

As General Agents for a dry bulk vessel operating Company, have coordinated all the chartering and contract operation of the Principal. Have been primarily responsible for ship chartering and cargo bookings in Great Lakes/ St Lawrence, primarily within Atlantic origin and destinations.

Duties similar to Calumet as above. During 1977-80, in a relatively good market, the Group registered spectacular profits.

McGill UNIVERSITY, Montreal: Part time MBA, not completed due to relocation to Houston

ACADEMY of ECONOMIC STUDIES, Bucharest, Romania: Bachelor degree in Economics from the Faculty of International Trade. Major: International Transportation and International Trade.

LANGUAGES: Fluent in English, French and Romanian. Workable German and Spanish.
