I was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands so I am bilingual. I am the divorced father of four daughters. I presently am living on Vieques Island east of Puerto Rico.

Qualifications
U.S. Coast Guard licensed Master of steam or motor vessels of 1600/3000 gross tons upon oceans with towing vessel endorsement oceans and western rivers. I completed my I.S.P.S. training on 07/22/09. The endorsement is not yet on my STCW.

Work History

Latest work has been for American tugs inc. located in Puerto Rico. Deliveries of refurbished tugs from New Orleans to Puerto Rico and the removal of scrap metal from the Bahamas to Tampa, Florida by tug and barge from 05/09 to07/09.Company owner Pedro Rivera can be reached at (787) 505-1134.

11/08 to 12/30/08 Captain, offshore tug working in conjunction with a derrick barge in the Gulf of Mexico. My responsibility was the timely movement of the materials barge and crew supervision of scheduled maintenance and training. Global International Marine Corp. Houma, LA. (985) 868-9327 Ray Fournier Marine manager. Lay off due to lack of work and economic times.

09/07 to 10/08. Self employed charter captain/fishing guide in eastern Puerto Rico and Vieques catering to the tourist trade. I used my maritime training to find the best fishing opportunities for my clients.

04/07 to 08/07.I Captained for Global International Marine Corp. in St. Eustatius, Netherlands Antilles. Tanker assists with fuel barge service to tankers at anchor and shore side facilities. This was a 90 day on 30 days off schedule.

10/03 to 02/07. Self employed charter captain/general contractor working in Vieques, Puerto Rico both jobs catering to State side residents.

04/03 to 10/03, Sailed my wooden boat to P.R. from Florida.

10/95 to 10/02 7 years as Mate with Crowley Marine Services, Caribbean, and Crowley Liner Services Jacksonville, Fl. Towing from Jacksonville,Fl. or Philadelphia, Pa. to San Juan, Puerto Rico. During this time with Crowley I was fortunately able to have many opportunities to experience the vastly different towing challenges of general cargo, fuels, drilling rig modules, salvage tows and some of the largest container barges in the world.

7/94 to 8/95 Owner, operator Tiburon deep sea fishing charters based out of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

2/91 to 5/94, Worked as a charter Capt. and general contractor St.Croix, U.S.V.I. During this time my crew laid the foundation for the U.S. Post office in Gallows Bay, Christiansted, St. Croix U.S.V.I.

10/90 to 2/91 Dispatcher Crowley Marine Services San Juan, P.R. coordinating all ship assists and barge movements in San Juan harbor. Shore gang and engineering crew’s schedules monitored for job completion times.

6/90 to 8/90 Cat Services a U.S. Customs contractor refurbishing confiscated vessels for auction in San Juan, P.R. harbor. I worked both hands on in the repair of vessels and also in the supervisory capacity.

10/89 to 12/89, I worked for F.E.M.A. (Federal Emergency Management Agency) contractors working in Puerto Rico and U.S.V.I. after hurricane Hugo as an inspector of hurricane damage to dwellings and personal property.

6/89 to 10/89 Long lineing for Merritt Seafood aboard M/V Big Al our fishing route was from the Caribbean to the Grand Banks in the North Atlantic. Once again I received the benefit of working every station on board.

12/87 to 4/89 Charter Capt., general contractor, Hardwood cabinet maker. I was based out of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. I worked the lucrative tourist trade as a charter captain during the winters and spent the down times constructing homes and buildings along with fine hardwood cabinets.

6/86 to 10/87 General Offshore Corp. a Department of Defense contractor working on the U.S.Navy’s sonobouy program off of St. Croix U.S.V.I. This particular job entailed my constant communication and coordination between land, sea, and air assets to accomplish our mission in a timely and cost effective manner

Safe and efficient boat handling in all conditions and weather. I am able to handle all facets of crew training and vessel maintenance schedules. Maintaining all shipboard documents and company logs in accordance with C.F.R.'s and company directives. I'm able to direct the crew in the proper procedures during all levels of MARSEC and international security threat levels. Interfacing with shore facilities to ensure the completion of cargo operations in a timely and cost effective manner.

I presently hold a 1600/3000 ton Master of towing license with Western rivers and Oceans endorsements.
My background includes tanker assist and fuel barge duties in the Netherlands Antilles. Along with seven years with Crowley Liner and Marine services in the Caribbean, East and Gulf coasts including the bay of Campeche and northern South America. The cargo's hauled have been diverse in nature, containers, fuels, drilling rig modules, sand and aggregates, and of course vehicles and heavy equipment.
My O.S.V. experience has been limited to my time working for a D.O.D. contractor on the U.S. Navy’s sonobouy project off of ST. Croix U.S. Virgin Islands.
I am searching for long term employment with room to grow and new challenges.
