About SUNY Maritime College: SUNY Maritime College located on a 55-acre scenic waterfront property on the outskirts of New York City on the Throggs Neck peninsula where the East River meets Long Island Sound. Job Description: The Global Maritime Center was established in 2012 to focus Maritime College’s research, development, education and training expertise on the needs of the maritime industry, marine technology, maritime security, and the marine environment. This management position reports to the Executive Director of the Global Maritime Center (GMC) for Research, Development, Education and Training and as the Deputy Director would be conversant in and act as a direct representative of all programs.


*Coordinate the planning, development, marketing and delivery of onsite and offsite maritime related training, seminars, and programs consistent with the missions of the College and Global Maritime Center.

*Prepare and implement a comprehensive business and marketing plan for the delivery of maritime security education and training courses and programs.
*Identify and seek grants for Maritime Security and other GMC programs, projects, and research.
*Actively work with governmental agencies, business and industry organizations to assess maritime security training and research needs.
*Develop a base of clients and maintain database of clients/potential clients, industry contracts, donors and friends.
*Prepare operational budgets, track revenue and expenses attached to the GMC and associated projects.
*Manage and oversee contracts, planning, curriculum design, development, scheduling and delivery of all training ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
*Coordinate and manage arrangements for meetings, conferences and training events.
*Supervise preparation of course materials and reports.
*Maintain effective communications with organizational clients, administration, faculty and staff.
*Attend special events for GMC, including receptions, lectures, annual meetings and others as deemed appropriate.
*Recruit, supervise, and evaluate program speakers, instructors, contractors and other necessary staff.
*Prepare and implement a comprehensive business and marketing plan for the delivery of maritime security education and training courses and programs.
*Actively seek grants for Maritime Security and other GMC programs, projects, and research.
*Maintain confidentiality of information involving training courses, programs and student and employee records.
*Act on behalf of the Director in his or her absence.
*Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director for the Global Maritime Center.


*A Master’s degree in a discipline preferably in an area related to Maritime Security or National Security.
*Must be able to obtain or hold a TWIC card issued by the Transportation Safety Administration.
*Significant experience in executive positions of leadership, dealing with policy and budget.
*Minimum of 10 years of experience in maritime management or administration and development of training programs within the sea service armed forces, maritime industry, or a related industry and/or public safety or military, or similar significant experience in developing training programs in higher education setting.
*Ability to develop and manage public/private collaborative maritime security education and training programs.
*Knowledge of and competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and databases.
*Ability to multitask, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
*Ability to adapt to rapidly changing work conditions and prioritize as change occurs.
*Ability to provide quality and responsive customer service.
*Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse, multi-cultural environment.
*Possess good interpersonal, written, oral and listening communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

*U.S. Coast Guard License or experience in maritime service.
*Experience working in/ with the maritime industry.
*Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of federal and state funded grant programs, including writing grant requests, progress reports and accountability requirements.
*Extensive travel and experience in international arenas.
*Knowledge of current university policies and procedures.

Special Notes: This is a full time calendar year appointment Management Confidential position which serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
