Who May Apply: Open to all qualified United States citizens who are not currently employed with Military Sealift Command (MSC) as civil service mariner (CIVMAR) employees. Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.
Duties: The Supply Utilityman is an unlicensed entry grade member of the ship's Supply department crew. SU performs general hotel service work such as food handling and preparation,serving meals, busing tables and laundry. The SU is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of thestaterooms, bathrooms, passageways and common areas ofthe ship, and assisting the Chief Steward with dailyprovisions and manning underway replenishment rigs on allclasses of MSC civil service crewed ships. Performs otherduties as assigned. The Ordinary Seaman will perform and/or aid othercrewmembers in work pertaining to general maintenance,repair, sanitation, and upkeep of material, equipment, andareas that are the responsibility of the Deck Department.General maintenance consists of, but is not limited to:chipping, scaling, scraping, priming, painting, soundingand or cleaning of the ship’s hull, decks, superstructure,cargo gear, smokestack, rescue boats, lifeboats and orlife rafts, emergency and damage control gear. Further,the incumbent will become familiar with general nauticalterminology, boxing the compass, navigational runninglights, rules of the road, including day shapes, soundsignals and all distress signals. Performs other duties as assigned.

Must be a United States Citizen of at least 18 years ofage and possess and maintain a valid:
1.
U. S. Passport with a minimum of 7 monthsremaining of expiration date,

2.
Transportation Worker Identification Credential(TWIC) card with a minimum of 10 monthsremaining of expiration date.

3.
United States Coast Guard (USCG) MerchantMariner’s Document (MMD), or Merchant MarinerCredential (MMC), with a minimum of 10 monthsremaining of expiration date with the followingendorsement(s): Ordinary Seaman, Wiper andSteward Department (FH).


Applicants who meet the minimum eligibility requirementsdescribed above will be further evaluated. Documented knowledge, skills, and abilities, education, training,and awards contained in the application package andresume will be reviewed and rated to determine the degreeto which applicants possess the required knowledge,skills, and abilities listed below that are essential toperform the duties and responsibilities of the positionfor which applications are being considered.
SUPPLY UTILITYMAN:
1.
Knowledge of general housekeeping, janitorial,
cleaning services and sanitation.


2.
Knowledge of dining room service; formal and
informal settings.


3.
Knowledge of basic receipt, stow, issue/breakout andinventory processing for subsistence items and stockmaterial


ORDINARY SEAMAN:
1.
Ability to perform general maintenance and repair ondeck equipment.

2.
Knowledge of shipboard safety, including lifesavingand firefighting equipment, methods, and techniques.

3.
Knowledge of cargo operations, including such itemsas dry stores, munitions, petroleum products andhelicopter operations (VERTREP).

4.
Ability to operate UNREP gear and equipment(winches, cranes, booms, Material Handling Equipment(MHE), etc.).


Related MSC, military, and/or commercial experience,etc., will also be part of the rating process.
Conditions of Employment
1.
CIVMAR positions are subject to drug urinalysistesting.

2.
Able to obtain and maintain security clearanceeligibility and assignment to a sensitive position.

3.
Able to successfully pass the physical examinations(arranged by MSC) and maintain MSC medicalrequirements. Participate in vaccine immunization;including a tuberculosis (TB) screening test is alsorequired. TB screening is not provided at the MSC-arranged medical examination, but can usually beobtained from your personal medical provider or free atany local public health clinic. If you have previouslyhad a positive TB skin test (i.e. a CONVERTER orREACTOR), another skin test is not required. You mustinstead provide the medical department written proofthat you have completed treatment with medicine (i.e.INH), or that you have started treatment with medicine,or that such treatment is not warranted as determined by competent medical authority.

4.
Attend and successfully complete all mandatory trainingcourses, including personal survival, which requiresthe ability to float in the water for a minimum ofsixty (60) seconds

5.
Be ready, willing, and able to physically perform theduties of this position worldwide at all times.

6.
Be ready, willing, and able to work in a shipboardenvironment and wear protective equipment worldwide atall times.

7.
Entry-level positions require candidates to pass anEnglish language competency test.

8.
Participate in direct deposit/electronic funds transferas the standard method of payroll payments.

9.
Capable of speaking, understanding, reading and writingthe English language.
