Position: AB Deck Hand
The following position is for a tug and petroleum barge operation in St. Eustatius. The vessels are flagged Republic of the Marshall Islands and mariners must have either existing license / endorsement for the Marshall Islands or be qualified to get a Marshall Islands license / endorsement. Tug and barge operation is typically from St. Eustatius to St. Maarten, however, some longer voyages are possible. Each position is on a 60 days on / 30 days off rotation, with 1 day of vacation accrued per 10 days worked. Typical contract period is up to one year.
Summary of the position:
The Deckhand contributes to the objective that the vessel is always available to be deployed in a safe and efficient manner, as directed by Seabulk Tankers, Inc. Management, or the Chief Officer/Master on duty and in accordance with Company rules and requirements.
Responsibilities, Authorities and Accountabilities:
To execute operational duties, related to all tasks required of the vessel;
To perform maintenance and housekeeping duties on deck, in the engine room, on the barge or accommodation as instructed by the Chief Officer/Captain/Lead Tankerman on duty;
To perform vessel maintenance to include cleaning, scraping, painting, changing all oil and filters, etc. ;
To carry out operational or maintenance work ashore, outboard, a tow, a project etc. as required by the Chief Officer/Master/Lead Tankerman or Company Management;
Standing watch on the bridge and on deck as required;
The Deck Hand must be able to perform all duties while wearing protective equipment to include PVVC foul weather gear, life jacket, gloves, helmet and boots;
The Deck Hand must be able to assist with the training of newly hired employees;
The Deck Hand and must be able to inspect, correct if possible, and notify the Captain of any conditions, which will affect the safety of the operation;
The Deck Hand has the obligation and authority to stop his activity or act at his discretion whenever unsafe, non-conforming or when conflicting situations arise and is under the obligation to notify the Captain, Engineer or Lead Tankerman immediately;
Safe handling of lines to make fast tie off as required during operations;
To serve as lookout/observation post when needed during maneuvers and pass information to Captain and crew as needed;
License Requirements
The AB Deck Hand must be able to comply with the applicable flag state and international legislation, environmental regulations, the Company rules and regulations, policy, directives, commercial contracts and accepted Industry Standards;
The AB Deck Hand must have proper licensing, training and endorsements according to the requirements of the flag of the vessel.
