This position is responsible for creating and implementing a detailed plan for the safe and efficient movement of cargo through the terminal. The person in this position will be required to creatively combine labor, equipment, machinery, stevedore gear, cranes , vessel limitations and terminal layout in order to safely maximize profitability. Plans must ensure the company's compliance with federal, state and local safety rules and regulations and be responsive to customer requirements. This position represents the company's core competency and should endeavor to maintain unimpeachable standards of professionalism.
This position supervises the union personnel and foremen at this location.
Primary duties include:
Full responsibility for vessel operations from nomination to completion
Communicates with vessel operator prior to vessel arrival, during operations and after completion in order to maintain maximum customer satifaction
Suggest stow plan changes that will accommodate production
Determines and orders labor requirements
Verifies vessel invoices for accuracy
Deals with union complaints as they occur
Inspects gear certifications and dates
Makes physical inspection of vessel and equipment
Additional Functions:
Operates a computer to review information related to ship and cargo
Works weekends and holidays
Remains on 24-hour call for operations and emergencies
Travels to outlying ports as needed
Attends meetings
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
Knowledge of Maritime industry to include longshoremen's union policies, union contracts, vessel specifications and plans, heavy lift rigging priniciples, port procedures and govermental and safety regulations preferred
Minimum 10 years working experience loading and unloading general cargo
Valid drivers license
HIgh School diploma or equivalent preferred |
