Job Description
Company located in Tyson’s Virginia (USA) area seeks a self-confident and energetic professional to serve as a Management level member of the Liberian Registry’s safety & investigation management team. Manages investigation program and monitors fleet compliance with Liberian Maritime Laws and Regulations.

Duties include: Conduct investigations into marine casualties and alleged violations of Maritime laws, rules, and regulations, and International Conventions to which Liberia is a party. Assists in preparation and submission of required reports and trend analysis. Coordinate Liberian flag State compliance program. Review and analyze ISM/ISPS/safety inspection and port State reports with deficiencies and observations to identify trends and improvements in compliance. Identify areas of concern and negative trends. Contact responsible parties to ensure effective follow-up. Pre-empts port state detentions when possible through activation of world-wide network of nautical inspectors. Intervene in the event of detentions as appropriate. Monitor communication with shipowners and shipmanagers to ensure accurate and timely responses to inquiries. Review new or amended international requirements on a regular basis and prepare updates/revisions of Administration guidance to ensure proper and timely application. Conducts audits and/or inspections onboard vessels, including audits of flag State auditors performance, as required.


One year or more experience as a licensed deck or engineering officer. Experience as a port state control or flag state inspector or class society surveyor desirable.

Bachelor of Science Maritime Transportation/Engineering or equivalent Technical degree or experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Able to read, understand and interpret Maritime Law. Maritime Regulations, and the following International rules: SOLAS, MARPOL, LOADLINES, STCW and the ISM and ISPS Codes.
Familiar with nautical terms regarding construction and operation of ships, offshore platforms and oil rigs
Speak and understand English
Excellent English writing skills.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office application and use of General office equipment
Familiar with ISM code, ISPS code and ISO-9000
Well developed interpersonal and communication skills
