Description
SVITZER is the largest company globally within towage, salvage and related services. We are 100% owned by the Denmark-based A.P. Moller/Maersk group – the world`s largest group of maritime companies. SVITZER Americas is growing steadily and is now operating more than 40 vessels (tug boats and related vessels) throughout North, South, Central America & the Caribbean. We are looking to talent to our Operations/Technical team at the SVITZER Americas Head Office in Miami, Florida, USA.
This position is aimed at enhancing our regional capacity to centrally manage all procurement for a large fleet of tugs and related vessels, as well as strengthen our operations team. This position will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer, and offers potential for future promotion within SVITZER Americas but also elsewhere within the global SVITZER or A.P. Moller-Maersk organizations. The role of Operations & Technical Procurement Manager offers an exciting and fulfilling opportunity to work with a first class team of experienced marine operations and technical professionals in an international environment. The right candidate will quickly develop generalist Operations & Technical capabilities, and will create significant value for our organization through superior cost leadership, and creative vendor management, and leadership.
Requirements
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

A significant part of the job will be learning through both the rigorous job requirements and supplementary theoretical learning on technical and general management issues. The job will entail supporting the COO, Regional Technical Manager, and country organizations with their tasks within the following areas:

1. PURCHASING
• Responsible for all purchasing activities, including implementation of monitoring of purchasing processes and procedures for SVITZER Americas
• Source, identify and purchase the fuel, lubricants, consumables and spare parts required at the right quality and at a competitive price
• Conduct periodic vendor appraisals and price comparisons
• Undertake negotiations with suppliers to delivery the best results for the company
• Manage the compilation and maintenance of an inventory list for SVITZER Americas
• Drive cost savings through superior logistics/planning at all levels of the procurement process
• Participate in an audit team to review effectiveness of the ISO + SQS systems periodically and systematically
• Liase with accounting/finance function to insure optimal visibility for procurement + purchasing throughout Americas region

2. OPERATIONS
• Work as an effective member of the Operations and Technical Management Team
• Coordination and planning with Class and Flag State Surveyors
• Assist HSEQ Manager with system implementation, including overall responsible for use of incident and near-miss reporting system.
• Provide leadership in fostering a culture of operational excellence and superior safety performance


3. TECHNICAL
• Assist Regional Technical manager with implementation and monitoring of all Preventive Maintenance Programs
• Support Operations and Technical team in planning, supervision, and execution of dry-docks, with focus on quality, time-efficiency, and cost-control
• Coordination with partners, clients, & suppliers to ensure maintenance of Class throughout fleet.
• Primary responsible for insurance & warranty claims



SKILLS REQUIRED
• Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Marine Engineering, or Maritime Administration background with 2-3 years maritime or related operations/purchasing
• Administration background with 2-3 years maritime or related operations/purchasing
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced, ever changing environment with tasks ranging from vetting suppliers, to managing people & processes as well as making and meeting financial budgets
