Port Captain:
Management position responsible to ensure vessels are crewed operated and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and customer expectations. Ensures the safe, cost effective and environmentally sound marine transportation of petroleum and chemical cargoes via oversight/monitoring of petroleum and chemical tankers, barges and ATBs and coordination of daily operational vessel support. May involve travel to multiple locations with extended stays away from the homeport. Implements standard procedures and guidelines for the operation of a safe and environmentally sound fleet. Attends vessels on a regular basis for oversight as well as during customer inspections and SIRE vetting. Investigates vessel damage, product spills, and personal injuries. Ensures all vessel personnel comply with regulatory training requirements. Assists in the development and adherence of the operational budgets. Ensures all appropriate authorized and company personnel are notified and that proper documentation is completed accurately. Supervise licensed and unlicensed personnel, and fosters crew management development. Responsible for ensuring all required regulatory and compliance standards are adhered to. Inspects vessels to ensure seaworthy condition and arranges for maintenance and repair activities to correct any deficiencies. Arranges for coordination of assist tugs, pilots and crew care as necessary. Provide technical expertise for specialized jobs in the field. Direct supervision of union and non-union vessel personnel.
EDUCATION: Bachelors degree from a Maritime Academy with an
USGC License. At least 10 years in the maritime industry may substitute for degree. Requirements: Minimum 5 years as a seagoing licensed officer on petroleum tankers or ATB’s. Microsoft Word/Excel skills required. Must possess skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Requires the ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope.
