Wilhelmsen Ship Management USA is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a position as Vessel Manager. The position will be assigned responsibility for ‘The World’ and other vessels as required.
The vessel manager will work in an environment calling for flexibility and the capability to work independently as well as in a team. The vessel manager will be a self-starter, will have close working relationship with the vessel(s) shipboard management, the vessel(s) owner, and internal and external support services appropriate for vessel operation. Extensive travel may be required in the attendance of vessels assigned to him. Good writing skills will be an advantage. Recent passenger ship experience is necessary.
The Job/Main Responsibilities:
The vessel manager will be directly responsible for safe and efficient operation of the vessel(s) assigned to him, and will report to the Fleet Manager/General Manager, WSM USA in Houston.
Among the duties are:
• Follow up on technical matters, planned maintenance and relevant services related to the vessel(s), including dry-docking and surveys.
• Work out vessel(s) operation budget in co-operation with shipboard management and follow up on actual costs.
• Communicate with manning function regarding vessel(s) crewing within the scope of the management agreement.
• Communicate with vessel(s) class societies and other relevant authorities.
• Be involved in purchasing of spares and stores for the vessel(s).
• Follow up on vessel(s) quality assurance system and audits.
• Visit the vessel(s) for inspection at regular intervals.
• Follow up on insurance case in cooperation with insurance claim handler.
• Correspond with and report to the vessel(s) owner(s) as stipulated.
Required Qualifications/Education:
The applicant’s qualifications should be of technical/maritime nature with relevant seagoing and/or shore management experience. The min qualifications are:
1. Technical/maritime qualifications, preferably with seagoing experience as Chief Engineer or Master.
or
2. Degree in naval architecture or marine engineering with relevant office experience.
Personal Qualifications:
The candidate must be fluent in the English language - both spoken and written and should have knowledge of common computer tools. |
