Job Description
The Director of Waterfront Operations will promote the overall operational and safety awareness of Office of Waterfront Operations which includes scheduling and planned use of vessels, administration of the TAMUG Vessel Operation, Training and Safety program and overall operational integrity of the TAMUG vessel fleet and marine terminal facilities. The vessel fleet consists of all vessels under the auspices of TAMUG including research vessels funded through grants, donated vessels and recreational vessels owned by TAMUG (excluding vessels associated with the Texas Clipper operations. Responsible for the daily management of the TAMUG waterfront operations including all research, training/teaching, recreational, outreach vessels and non-TAMUG vessels moored in the TAMUG Small Boat Basin and the Texas Clipper dock facility; vessel scheduling, and booking and invoicing of boat trips.
Manage and direct all Waterfront Operations (OV) personnel full-time, part-time, and student workers and contractors including employment decisions, performance development, and personnel budgets and other related actions.
Coordinate, develop, direct and evaluate the effectiveness of all Waterfront Operations training and boat safety programs for the University. Ensure vessels have all required safety equipment on board and are in compliance with all US Coast Guard Safety regulations and operating designations and overall vessel operations best practices.
Examine all activities involving the use of vessels, regardless of ownership of the vessel, and initiate action to stop any operation or hazardous practice where there appears to be impending danger of potential human injury or death, or serious damage to equipment, material, or facilities.
Ensure that Vessel Operators within the TAMUG fleet are appropriately qualified and certified according; that is, persons serving as Vessel Operators shall have USCG licensure or have completed the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the U.S. Power Squadron I exam as deemed necessary by the Director of Waterfront Operations. Develop capital and operating budgets for vessel operations and marine shore services. Maintain liaison with federal agencies to ensure up-to-date knowledge of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations affecting vessels and/or shore-based marine services. Develop planning needs for fleet operations and acquisition of vessels and dockside equipment and facilities. Plan and oversea modifications, maintenance, repairs and improvements to vessel fleet and facilities as necessary and establish contacts with and direct efforts of consultants, engineers, contractors and vendors engaged in University marine projects.
Represent the University at regulatory body hearings, insurance matters, and other meetings pertaining to University marine interests.
Inspect vessels that are proposed for donation to the university and make recommendations regarding vessel seaworthiness and projected maintenance costs for the vessel. Other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Marine or Maritime-related field or equivalent combination of training & experience. Five years in maritime administration or maritime facilities and boat operations. Must have a State of Texas Class "C" vehicle license, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment. Must have a 100 ton Master's License or five years of Navy or Coast Guard experience. Supervisory/management skills, boat handling, purchasing skills, budget responsibilities and marine repairs. Must pass Drug Test and physical. Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Class "C" vehicle license, 100 ton Master's License or equivalent (Navy or Coast Guard experience).

SALARY $65,500 to $75,500 annually.
