MAJOR DUTIES:
NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD - OFFICE OF MARINE SAFETY
The incumbent will serve as a national expert in marine accident investigations, marine operations and marine safety. At the full performance level, the incumbent may serve as a Group Chairperson and/or Investigator-In-Charge(IIC), on major marine accidents. Responsible for organizing, and managing the investigation of major marine accidents and developing and presenting a written report of the investigation with safety recommendations for adoption by the Safety Board. As a Group Chairperson leads and managers an assigned investigative specialist team group, which is comprised of high level technical personnel from Federal, State and local regulatory agencies, union officials, industry representatives and officials, during the on-scene phase of the investigation. Conducts and/or leads audits of Safety management Systems in accordance with International safety management (ISM) Code 2002. Organizes and participates in public hearings as required, as the leader of a member of the technical panel.
Qualifications Required:
Specialized experience may include participating in marine investigations; writing analytical investigative reports; and/or independently conducting activities onboard seagoing vessels over 1600 gross tons related to vessel and crew member safety, including verifying compliance with international safety standards.
